Rory the Chimchar Adrian the Chespin Colin the Wobbuffet
Describe yourself in one sentence.
Don’t mess with me - I got martial arts training. Mostly, I mean.
[Click... whirr... BEEP!] Before I begin, there’s one thing I would like to set straight: Whatever lies that woman has told you about me, they’re not true!
Well, I guess I’m just a wandering leaf looking for a place to settle down.
What do you think is your best quality?
My strength. Yep, you’re lookin’ at a lifetime of farmwork here.
My superior intelligence, of course.
I’m afraid there isn’t much to tell about me. But thank you for asking anyway.
If you were able to change any of your traits, what would it be?
Change my traits. Change my traits ... Nah, I’m good.
... Are you instating there’s something wrong with me? Do have a problem with me, is that it? Gosh darnit!
I’d ask for more arms without question. There are only so many things you can do with two.
Now describe your teammates in one sentence each.
Plum’s my slave - I mean, personal assistant - and I’m not sure if he’s fakin’ or what he’s hoping to gain or what, but he cannot really be that dumb. As for Colin, um ... he’s good.
She has shifty eyes - I don’t like her.
Ah, Rory is a friendly ray of sunshine, as sweet and kind as she is l-lovely. I’m afraid I have yet to meet her partner, Adrian Crest, but I’ve heard a few things about him. Mostly good, I suppose?
Do you think you make friends easily?
Eh, you know, same old story. I don’t try not a’ make friends, it’s just. . .I don’t really try either. I kinda just reflect back to people how they act to me.
I make enough.
I’ve never been at want. But I don’t get out much. I’m sure Rory will introduce me.
Are you content with your life in general?
I can’t complain.
Very much so, yes. My life is how I developed my smarts, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Not even chocolate.
Of course, but that doesn’t mean I won’t stop striving to reach my goals.
How were you educated?
I know ‘bout everything there is to know about Mareep, Miltank, and Skiddo and those other farm-type animals ... Why’re ya lookin’ at me that way?
A lifetime of books and solitude, that’s what. Near-solitude, anyway. . .
Oh, I’ve known a few university graduates. I’ve been working with the Geodan Researchers for a long time, too.
What is your favorite hobby?
I really like to sleep, but I do gotta work sometimes to keep up my strength. Not as fun as it used a’ be though ... Here, Plum-Head whipped up this form you can sign if you want to be my sparring buddy or whatever. I don’t know, I haven’t actually read it, but it sounds promising.
I write a lot of research papers. You can borrow ‘em so long as you keep ‘em in good shape and return them to me within a week. I’ll find you if you don’t.
I’m always at work. My father used to tell me that if I couldn’t find anything to improve, then I wasn’t trying hard enough.
What career do you hope to pursue in the future?
You’re gonna see my name in lights, sweetheart.
I am an author in training, and I study cognitive biology, particularly concerning evolution and the Fog-Feral types.
Hmm. I have quite an interest in biotechnology.
What sort of religion do you belong to, if any?
See, almost everyone back home’s either Hlaitin or Thrishum. Couple of ‘em are neither, but they’re kinda few and far between ... I don’t know what I believe. Kinda iffy on this one.
That’s ... not important. I try to keep my personal beliefs personal so I’m not biased in my writing.
Oh, just the usual odds and ends you hear ... There’s a great spirit out there, you know.
How good is your sense of direction?
Decent, I suppose, s’long as I have the sun. It’s the stars that really get me.
I’ve studied how to navigate by sun, stars, moss, migrating birds, and anything else you can think of.
Sadly, direction is one of my many weaknesses. Sometimes I even get lost in the Researcher Guild headquarters!
As of now, what do you think is your greatest regret?
Mm ... Well, technically that’s not a regret because it wasn’t - er, weren’t - anythin’ I had control of, so ... I’m good.
Regret? Regret? Are you trying to start something with me? Gosh darnit!
I suppose I wish I would have told my grandmother how much I loved her before she died, and I can never thank my grandfather enough for everything he taught me about machines.
Describe the strangest dream you’ve ever had.
It was the weirdest thing. I was walkin’ through the desert heading towards Kaijing City when all of a sudden someone starts laughing hysterically. I turn and there’s this Chespin who was- Oh wait, that actually happened. Huh. Go figure.
I’m a lucid dreamer, always have been (That means I can control my own dreams for all you simple folk).
Oh. I normally don’t dream, sorry.
What is something you do that others may consider odd?
I can pick my nose with my feet. Um ... don’t tell Colin, please.
Don’t be starting with me like that, gosh darnit!
Hmm. I suck on my hands quite a bit. I’ve never had a thumb, you see. And I collect all sorts of scraps and keep them in my jacket pockets. Here’s a sprocket, and that’s a washer. This is steel wool. One of my rags. Then there’s... this dohickey. I’m afraid I don’t... actually know what this is. I think it used to be a screwdriver, before I got into a fight and it melted.
How often have you seen your grandparents?
Two of ‘em on a daily basis back before I left home. They lived in the same village, after all. I don’t think I met the others though ...
I’d say my father is pretty grand. He often let me get away with doing anything I want just because I was the youngest.
I’m the third generation born into our little circus family. My grandfather - on my mother’s side - was interested in biotechnology just like me. He was always there to answer any questions that I had ...
What are some of your pet peeves?
Stupid nasty Ghosts.
I’ve actually been accused of being ‘stupid’, if you can believe that.
I don’t think I really have any. I try not to let the little things in life get to me.
In battle, would you be willing to take a hit for any of your teammates?
For Adrian? He’s my meat-shield. As for Colin, maybe if I were in the mood. But a’ be honest, the guy could take an Aggron to the face and walk away just fine, geez ...
Tell me: Do I look suicidal to you?
Mmhm. Of course! My kind are born and bred for that sort of thing.
Do you think any of your teammates would take a hit for you?
Heh heh, of course he would! Adrian’s my meat shield, after all, heh heh heh ... And Colin. The Aggron thing, like I said. You know.
I don’t like to say ‘Never’, because I’m sure there would be some sort of situation, but right here and now it seems unlikely.
Er, I r-r-really hope she’s aware of h-how unnecessary that would b-b-be ...
What physical weaknesses do you believe you have?
Allergies to Poison-Types, ugh. Worse’n normal, I mean. It’s like they’re doubled or somethin’, I dunno. It’s real weird inside my head.
That’s it!
The most notable of all would be that I can’t jump, but I’ve accepted that now.
Do you consider yourself to be a risk-taker?
Hm? Oh, sure, yeah. Not gonna lie, I tend to jump into things without really thinkin’ ‘em all through. That’s what Adrian’s for- fishin’ me out.
Not at the spur-of-the-moment, no. Every option is looked at from every angle before I make a decision.
I’ve been known to pull a few stunts ...
Have you ever killed or come close to killing anyone else?
Do non-sentient Bug-Types count? What about sentients, are they still cool?
No ... You think I would? Are you still trying to start something with me? What is your problem, gosh darnit?
I’ve never killed anything that wasn’t going to kill me first.
What is your earliest memory?
I remember sitting on a fence and watchin’ my brother shear a Mareep ...
... I was a stupid child. My brothers and I would get into a lot of mischief together. Especially me and Mulligan, oh geez ...
Mr. Cubby Oakland found me crawling around in the grass and eating whatever fallen snacks I could find. I was a circus child. What do you expect?
Share a favorite moment from your childhood.
Oh, heh. I found this egg once that seemed abandoned and I brought it home and took care of it and out hatched this adorable li’l Murkrow ... Um, erase that last part, please.
I observed a Yanma in our garden for a week and wrote my first research paper on what I learned. My older brother Dashell later set it on fire, but I got back at him by locking him in a closet for an entire day, oh yes I did, heh heh ...
My brother and I used to play this game where I would throw a ball and he would go and get it back.
Can you cook?
Nah, not really. I mean I can, but that doesn’t mean I like to.
Oh, certainly. I don’t know a lot of recipes, but I can read a cookbook and I can make six different kinds of cookies by heart.
I can boil noodles ... I-I’m sorry.
What qualities would you look for in a potential mate?
Well, I dunno, I haven’t really thought about it. I guess someone smart, someone with a lot of patience, someone who can take my teasing, someone loyal, someone who’s a hard worker, someone who wouldn’t see me as a damsel in distress and try to be a ‘big, strong man’, someone who wouldn’t try to make all my decisions for me ... Oh gosh, no! Dang it - Tell me I did not just describe Adrian! That was completely unintentional - Cut that part out! ... No one must ever know I said that.
Qualities ... Well, intelligence is a good quality to have.
Th-that’s ... not fair. Nobody said you’d a-a-added this to your interview! I-is it really appropriate to ask such in-invasive things?
Do you think you work well under pressure?
Pressure? Ha. I stay calm and focused no matter what the situation. Um. Y’know.
Heh ... heh ... heh ... .heh ... Ha ha ... ha ... ha ...
I-I’m sorry, I’m going to need an-n-nother minute. C-can we just wait another minute?
Do you prefer to interact with large groups of people or small?
Well, I was kind of social around my ... friends back home, but if I don’t know people I kinda keep to myself.
Technically speaking I think it’s safe to say that I haven’t had much interaction with either one, so ...
I don’t think anything beats one-on-one interaction with my- my colleagues.
What does it take to get you smiling?
I just kinda like to joke an’ laugh, y’know how it goes.
Oh, I really shouldn’t ... I ... I just ... really ... like ... chocolate. Don’t ... judge me, gosh darnit.
Those dazzling smiles just ... melt me. Mmm ...
When was the last time you cried?
Well, I did cut my hand pretty bad once when I was nine. Still have a bit of a scar on my palm from that.
That’s a tough one. I never cried even as a baby - my father swears it’s true.
... There’s no point in lying. Sourdough ate the last Oranberry tart. Please don’t judge.
When you aren’t out on Guild assignments, how do you like to spend your day?
I usually practice my fighting skills, sleep a lot, take advantage of my slave - I mean, personal assistant.
Currently I’m conducting a study on girls. They’re fascinating creatures, really.
I can always find ways to make myself useful around the house. Tomorrow I tear out and fix up the bathroom!
Who do you think has been the most inspirational person in your life?
My older brother Joshua, easy. Him’n my parents. And I had a few friends back home too - Carla, Rex, Adam ... Rex ... especially, I guess... I don’t really wanna talk about it.
My father, certainly. Someday I’m going to be important just like him.
As much as I’d like to say Mr. Oakland, I’ll have to go with my grandfather. He taught me a lot of interesting things that I think about to this day. Sorry, Mr. Oakland!
What do you think you might be doing ten years from now?
While I think it’d be nice to be famous, I dunno, maybe a stage actress or stunt double or something, I’ll ... prob’ly just end up back home on my farm. It’s all I’ve ever known, after all. Time’ll tell.
I’m going to write and research and live all by myself except when I attend fancy business meetings or dinner parties and it’s going to be the greatest thing ever.
... We’ll see!
If you had to choose who to marry right here and now, who would it be?
I know I said Adam last time, but I, um ... I’ve met a lot a cool guys since then. Can’t pick just one.
... Hm? I’m not sure I understand this question ...
! I-it really i-isn’t fair to make me choose from so many s-sweet young l-l-ladies ...
What is one motto that you think you live your life by?
Maybe we got everything to prove, but there’s nothin’ in our way! ... Did I say ‘we’?
... Did you say something? Sorry, I was thinking about something else.
W-w-work is ... I-I ... I’m sorry, I still can’t- Oh, we’re done? A-ah ... Thank you. You take care.
Describe yourself in one sentence.
